Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

That's our first video clip from tonight's Our Lady of Guadalupe tree lighting in Sunrise Heights – first the countdown by emcee Brian Callanan (an OLG parishioner and longtime local TV newsperson who's now with Seattle Channel), then “O Christmas.

Worshipers celebrated the actual 480th anniversary of the Virgin's appearance to an indigenous peasant called Juan Diego near Mexico City.

The festivals began in in town Los Angeles at Some:30 a.meters. with a procession through Cathedral Plaza, then a Mass at the Cathedral of our own Lady of the Angels about Temple Street.

Aztec dancers and mariachis performed in the plaza, where dancers will continue to perform throughout the day, stated Carolina Guevara, a spokeswoman for your archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Guevara said about 3,1000 people arrived for that first Mass with the morning at Several:45 a.meters., with thousands a lot more expected to arrive regarding services throughout the day. The lady described the atmosphere as festive and satisfied.

The relic, given to Archbishop John Cantwell of Los Angeles with the Archbishop of Mexico Metropolis, Luis Maria Martinez, in 1941, may be the only part of the tilma on display in america.
