Declaring that “The time is now. The opportunity is now,” race car driver Danica Patrick confirmed that she would be switching from IndyCar to Nascar full time, beginning with the 2012 season.
The move, which had been anticipated, was confirmed by Patrick at a press conference in Arizona.
After driving in 20 races in the Nascar Nationwide series over the past two seasons, Patrick, 29, will race full-time there for JR Motorsports and co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. She also said she would enter about “eight to ten” races in the Nascar Sprint series with Stewart-Haas Racing and co-owner Tony Stewart, but did not offer a timetable.
She Said to press “I would love to have won every race,” she said. “But that’s really hard to do.” She pointed out that she would still be racing in IndyCar events this year and did not rule out a return to the Indy 500, which she called “the greatest race in the world.”
